Database – Database – Database Mr. ZIP as you know him today will be changing soon. See “OneCode” & OneCode ACSTM Read the message below first. ZIP Code Changes IMPORTANT ZIP CODE NOTIFICATION INFORMATION “Effective immediately, the U.S. Postal Service has introduced deletions, additions and modifications for nearly 1,000 ZIP Code areas. These ZIP Code changes affect hundreds of thousands of business and residential addresses nationwide.” (According to The National Information Data Center) www.zip.ucg.com Within every ZIP Code are hundreds of addresses. Think about all the documents this will affect, from personal and business stationary including business cards to Web site addresses. This is why I believe it is most important to have your individual and company database scrubbed and updated with the newest address information. I’m often asked; How often should I update my data? The answer is simple. The more you mail and ship, the more often you should be utilizing Certified software programs or vendors to clean your database. Back to the A, B, C’s of addressing. Clean data equals more efficient and timely service by the United States Postal Service and all the major package carriers, along with fewer Address correction charges by those major carriers. I recommend avoiding disruption of your outgoing invoices, paychecks and basic business and personal communications by using an updated National ZIP Code directory, Certified software or a licensed vendor. Individual
address lookups can be done right on line at: www.usps.com and clicking on ZIP+4 lookup. Remember:
When looking up an address always include the Suite,
Room or Floor in your address line as it makes a difference to the +4 that is
required for bar coding & presort discounts. Increased efficiencies regarding your mail and package services will only happen if you’ve done your homework. Your homework is quite simple. Upgrade your Addresses and Design Clean mail. Understanding Good Database Hygiene and Practicing Proper Mail Design will increase your profits by ensuring lower postage and shipping costs and increasing your efficiencies and timeliness of your mail and packages.
